USB-C PD vs QC charging

Understand voltage negotiation, cable requirements and when 18W, 45W or 60W charging makes sense.

What PD does

USB Power Delivery negotiates a supported voltage and current between charger and device. EnTrans PD platforms commonly offer profiles such as 5V/3A, 9V/2A, 12V/1.5A, and on higher-power models up to 20V.

What QC does

QC-oriented USB-A platforms are a cost-effective choice for tablets and phones that charge around 5V/2.4A. They are not a substitute for a notebook that requires USB-C PD.

Choose by workload

PD18W suits many tablets and mobile devices. PD45W and PD60W are better for compatible laptops, but raise total system power and cable requirements.

  • Verify the device’s accepted PD profiles
  • Use certified cables rated for the required power
  • Do not size a cart from connector shape alone
